Grassroots Girls Initiative.

I recently piloted a participatory video curriculum with young women participating in the Firelight Foundation/Nike Foundation’s Grassroots Girls Initiative in Rwanda and Malawi. The project used the Most Significant Change methodology to document adolescent girls’ experiences in vocational interventions at three community-based organizations. To date, the girls have used their new video editing and interviewing skills to create 3-5 minute stories of their own experiences; write and edit short public service announcements around key issues affecting women and girls; trained other women in their work collectives to document their own experiences; and collectively shared their insights on the status of women and girls with key decision makers including local government representatives and national and international development leaders.
